
The UW Cinematheque’s popular Thursday evening Premieres series has been extended through the first two Thursdays in December in order to bring viewers two of the best-reviewed movies of the year.
The Tale of Silyan, a marvelous documentary from National Geographic Films, will screen on December 4. Silyan is directed by Tamara Kotevska, whose Honeyland received an Oscar nomination.
Winner of the Best Director, Best Actor, and the FIPRESCI Critic’s Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, The Secret Agent screens on December 11. Thought provoking and hugely entertaining, this powerful Brazilian thriller set in 1977 is directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, who spoke to Cinematheque audiences after a screening of his movie Bacarau in 2022.
More information on both movies below. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. in the Cinematheque’s regular venue, 4070 Vilas Hall, 821 University Ave. Admission is free, seating is limited. No one will be admitted after 7:15 p.m.
