Kaneto Shindo: The Master at 99

This series of spellbinding features begins with Postcard, which master director Kaneto Shindo released last year, shortly after his 98th birthday. Born and raised in Hiroshima, Shindo served as an apprentice to Kenji Mizoguchi and ultimately emerged to direct some of the best - and most diverse - films in the last 50 years of Japanese cinema. The regional premiere of Postcard, which Shindo has declared will be his last film, is complemented by new prints of three of the director's most celebrated titles from the 1960s.
