Contemporary Taiwanese Classics

A follow-up to our Spring, 2011 series that examined the so-called “third wave” of filmmakers to emerge in Taiwanese film over the past three decades, this line-up offers four acclaimed feature films by acknowledged “masters” of the national cinema, including directors Hou Hsiao-Hsien and Edward Yang. All of the films relate to specific events and eras in contemporary Taiwanese history. As with the earlier series, the films have been personally curated by Wenchi Lin, Associate Professor of Film Studies at Taiwan's National Central University.
