Archival Treasures: Recent Columbia Restorations
Every spring, the Cinematheque devotes a series to recent restorations by a world-renowned preservation department. This year we are bringing Columbia restorations from the Sony Film Archive to Madison, which presents a rare opportunity for our audience to (re)discover some of the best American films from the 50s and early 30s. With films directed by Otto Preminger, Nicholas Ray, and Frank Capra, and starring James Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Barbara Stanwyck, and Dan Duryea, this series truly covers all the bases. We are thrilled that Grover Crisp, Vice President of Asset Management and Film Restoration at Sony Pictures Entertainment, will join us on May 9th to introduce his restoration of Capra's pre-Code masterwork, American Madness (1932).
Co-sponsored by the Society of American Archivists, UW Madison Student Chapter. This series was made possible with the assistance of Grover Crisp. Special thanks to Helena Brissenden, Suzanne LeRoy and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
